Wind Spinners are a rotating toy that typically has the shape of a bird or some other animal. They can be found in homes, at schools and as party favors among various different cultures.

Wind spinners are a type of weather vane. They are usually mounted on the top of a building, and they use the wind to turn in order to point in the direction of the wind.

What are Wind Spinners?

Wind spinners use the force of the wind to produce a colorful work of art that moves.

A wind spinner may come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Many of them are shaped like animals or plants. Others are made up of many concentric rings that revolve on the same axis to create a “3D” effect.

Wind Spinners and Their Care

Metal wind spinners are composed of steel, and they must be kept dry. Manufacturers achieve this by painting their spinners with protective and attractive paints.

The top wind spinner manufacturers include a rust-free guarantee, but you may take further precautions to assure long-term protection.

UV protection should be applied to wind spinners, particularly those made of plastic. UV protectors are available in spray-on form and are meant to protect skin against sun damage. You won’t be able to tell it’s there until it’s been applied.

Wind spinners have a swivel axis that might seize up over time. The swivel has most likely seized up if the device is not rotating. To fix this, spray some lubricant on the swivel and gently rotate it to free it up.

When hanging a spinner, avoid using thick thread or twine. For the greatest results, use fishing line. Fishing line’s small and light profile provides less resistance, allowing the spinner to spin even in the lightest of breezes. Check the line’s weight capacity to make sure it can carry the spinner’s weight. Because fishing line is composed of plastic, it should be replaced every year.

How to Make a Wind Spinner (with Pictures)

There are a few fun and inexpensive methods to make your own wind spinner. It may be an enjoyable activity for both children and adults.

Method with a Plastic Plate

Using a hot glue gun, make a hole in the middle of a plastic plate of any color. A hole will be melted through if you press hard enough. Circumferentially move the cannon until the hole has enlarged to a diameter of 2 inches.

Latex or acrylic paint and brushes may be used to create colors and patterns. For long-lasting color, finish with a UV protectant spray.

Drill a hole along the edge of the spinner to hang it. The middle 2 inch hole is meant to keep the plate from swaying instead of spinning.

Method with a Soda Bottle

Remove the labels from a 2-liter soda bottle after rinsing it.

Wrap colorful electrical tape around the bottle’s center, replacing the label. Create vertical cuts around the whole bottle where the tape has been placed using a razor blade.

When you press the top and bottom of the bottle together, the slots will flare outward. Pinch the middle of each slit bar to make it permanently stick out of the bottle.

Drill a hole in the cap and suspend it from the outside.
