Champion Generators Review

Champion created some of the best generators that you can find out there. The brand has launched a large number of appliances for almost any kind of need. Among those we can find small inverter generators, light portable units and also enormous 10,000w models.

Many users say that Honda and Yamaha produce the highest quality generators in the market. That is not at all false in some cases like the Yamaha EF2000iSv2. But I must object against the belief that these two brands are the only brands that make high-quality generators worth your money and time.

Here we have at least three other brands I can remember that produce the best portable units available in the United States, which are Westinghouse, Briggs & Stratton, and at last Champion.

While researching about Champion generators, I frequently discover that many of the Champion devices could comfortably match Honda units and still costing just a half of their prices. The Champion 7553i, for instance, can work as fine or even better than the Jap contenders!

In this Champion generators review I will bring up some of the more appreciated models this trustworthy American company can offer. We will talk about the particular application that each unit is meant for and whether it meets your needs or not.

The Champion 7553i deserves a special place in this compilation. From my point of view, this is one of the best inverter models there are available and the right option for RV users. Many 5 out of 4 stars on Amazon confirm it.

People from Camper Report wrote a great article about their personal experience with this machine and I’m so happy they agreed with my opinion.

For a start, this generator is really quiet. It might be not the most silent model available (keep reading to know more), but it is quiet indeed.

Unless you decide to run it at full load, you will only hear an insignificant noise coming from the quietly humming motor.

RV users will love to hear that this unit can run a 13,500 BTU air conditioner effortlessly. For sure, it will run many other devices as well. However, remember that you can’t plug in many appliances at the same time.

If by chance you find that 3,100 watts is too little for you, you can purchase two of these units and run them in parallel. This will provide a total of 6,200 watts, which is a lot more than any RV user could ever need.

This model also include a feature that I’m really in love with: the remote start!

I just can’t understand why so many other costlier inverters don’t have this amazingly handy addition.

Even the worldly popular Honda EU2200i gives no other option than the pulling start. I’m speaking for myself, but that means a superfluous exertion and belongs to the past century.

So, what is the big deal with this generator?

It has a strong handle and a kit of casters provides a lot of mobility. It can be easily moved around as if it was a lawn mower.

If we had any complaint about the casters, by the way, they could be a bit larger and a bit more separated from the deck of the machine. Campsites are usually placed on uneven grounds instead of being on plain surfaces. Stones and all kind of dirt can obstruct the casters.

Anyway, this is not a big problem and of course doesn’t bring down the excellent overall score I give to this model.

If you are interested to know more about the specs of this machine you can read my review about the 75531i or check it on Amazon (which is the site you should go to purchase this product if you decided to do it).

Pros

  • Great for RV owners
  • Not loud
  • Remote starting feature
  • Quite affordable

Cons

  • The casters may get obstructed on uneven grounds

Inverter units are usually appreciated for having a lot of functions that make them a more advanced option than standard portable versions.

Inverters are more compact, quieter, have a lower consumption of gas and what is best: they supply the kind of power known as clean energy.

This kind of energy is a remembrance of the state grid and often has not more than 1% of THD (Total Harmonic Distortion), which makes inverter models suitable for running delicate digital devices, such as phones and tablets, or even complex medical apparats.

Champion 3,400w Inverter Generator is a one-of-a-kind unit that stands out from other inverter models.

There are few inverters featuring dual fuel capability, and this is one of them.

It is able to work on either gasoline or propane. This is an ideally dynamic option for people who don’t entirely trust gas or are consciously eco-friendly (propane is supposed to be less pollutant than gasoline).

This machine is completely RV suitable. It has a 50-ampere outlet especially made for RV’s.

It is also highly recommendable for motor homes, but remember that you can’t plug in too many devices to it.

The 3,100 watts it provides while running on gasoline is sufficient energy to run a 10,000-air conditioner, a fridge, and a few small appliances.

Keep in mind that the running watts are a bit lower when working on propane, which is actually expectable.

The generator comes with the hose required to attach it to a propane tank, so you don’t have to buy it separately.

You can simply use the traditional “BBQ” propane tank to power this unit.

Champion Dual Fuel Inverter Generator

When it happens that you have to exchange the kind of fuel you are using for the other one, you can do it by just pushing a button.

In a few words, I think this is one of the brightest inverters Champion could ever offer, and one of the very best from my point of view. I’m really in love with the Champion 3100 and the addition of a double fuel option makes it an even more alluring deal.

I personally would encourage campers and RV users to purchase it.

Pros

  • It has the rare capacity of running on both gas and propane.
  • Very quiet.
  • Perfect for RVs.
  • Efficient consumption.

Cons

  • The casters are a bit small.

3. Champion 4000w Generator

The 4000w model produced by Champion is one of the top standard portable generators you can find in the market.

Though I would usually tell you to go for an inverter model which is much more silent, lighter, more technological and supply clean power, I must consider the fact that many of you sometimes just need a robust, affordable portable generator.

This 4000w Champion meets those requirements. It is a though machine perfect for workshops where heavy-duty tools are used. The tools I refer to could be circular saws, pneumatic compressors, or hydraulic hammers.

You will be happy to hear that it fully meets CARB standards. So, if you live in California you can use it without neglecting the regulations.

It has three different sorts of outlets: one 120-volt duplex. One 120-volt twist-lock and one RV outlet.

As you can notice this generator was made to be used for RVs as well. Anyway, I would tell you off the records to avoid this model for powering RVs and go instead for an inverter generator. Mainly because it is loud.

Inverter models like the Champion 7553i, which is the generator I always recommend for RVs, is much more suitable for such applications.

However, this 4000w Champion is an ideal option for people whose major priority is the long term of use. It has an average runtime of about 12hs at half its load which is an amazing capability.

Champion 4000w has the capacity to run a long range of power tools.

Pros

  • Extensive runtime
  • Great for working places

Cons

  • It is quite loud at high loads
  • The casters kit must be bought separately

Models with a dual fuel feature have become very popular in the last years. And they deserve it.

For a start, propane is much more economical than gasoline.

Also, it has been proved that propane is less pollutant than gas.

Finally, dual models provide a more versatile applicability and reduce your dependence on one only kind of fuel. You don’t need to hurry to refill the gas tank if you have the chance to just connect the tank of propane and forget about it for another couple of hours.

And don’t forget that refilling is frequently a dirty job while connecting a hose to the propane tank and unlocking the valve is an easy task.

The startup is very convenient too. You just have to press a button. You can already forget about the annoying pulling start.

This machine has been telepathically thought out with RV owners.

It has a running power of 3,800 watts on gas and 3,420 on propane. Sufficient for a 10,000 BTU RV air conditioner and a lot more.

Consider that this is a standard portable model and not an inverter device. And the main drawback a bout this is the loud the machine can get. 68 decibels at half capacity is not that noisy (older models are usually much noisier than that), but it certainly is quite annoying for a campsite.

My overall opinion is that this is one of the most dependable dual fuel portables you can get in the market. If you have a good opinion about Champion appliances and want to buy a medium-size dual fuel potable model, there is nothing restraining you from getting this one.

Champion 3800 is a fine option for working places.

Pros

  • Consumption efficiency
  • Exchanging one fuel option for another is an easy task
  • Can run fridges and air conditioners

Cons

  • Fairly loud

5. Champion 7500w dual fuel Generator

Champion is evidently determined to offer the highest quality generators attending to almost any kind of need and application.

Inverter model perfect for campsites and RVs – Checked. Backup power source for your entire house and your job site – Checked.

And a mighty 7500w generator that can work on either gasoline or a propane tank.

All that is what Champion has to offer.

I could personally say that this is one of the top propane-powered generators you can get.

Though I have given the golden medal for the best propane-powered generator to Westinghouse, this Champion machine is one considerable challenger as well.

This model offers a wide range of outlet options. It has an L5-30R 120-volt 30-ampere outlet, an L14-30R 120/240-volt 3o-ampere outlet and four 120-volt home GFCI protected outlet.

This versatility combined with a powerful wattage make this machine an excellent option for people who are searching for a domestic power source backup.

It comes with an onboard electric start. You won’t have to deal with pulling starts again.

For such a powerful portable device you would think it is quite noisy, and in fact the Champion 7500 unfortunately is. I preferably wouldn’t use it in a campsite or RV – But why would you want a machine this big for those areas? A 3400w model would meet those needs neatly.

But in the case that you need a generator for working places, you won’t care about the noise as long as you get enough electricity to power some of the highest demanding tools like a pneumatic compressor.

Some smart users also pointed out on Amazon that noise wouldn’t be a big annoyance in the case of an unexpected power outage in your local area, since most of your neighbors would be probably using their own generators at the same time.

If you plan to use it as a home backup, it would be good that you get a muffler to decrease the noise a bit. You can do it yourself too!

Champion 7500w dual fuel generator can be used as a home power source backup in case of an unexpected blackout due to bad weather.

Pros

  • Quite potent
  • Can power several big appliances at the same time
  • Great consumption efficiency
  • Extended running timeFairly affordable

Cons

  • Noisy

6. Champion 100110 9200w generator

  • Includes 3-year limited warranty with FREE lifetime technical support from dedicated experts

The Champion 100110 is the most potent generator the brand has launched so far.

It comes with a 459cc OHV motor giving 9,200 wattage while running.

That is sufficient and even more for supplying the most power-intensive tools like MIG welders.

It is also a safe option for home source backup and can power several household devices at the same time, including freezers, fridges, 15K BTU air conditioners, and garage door lifters.

Keep in mind that when connecting the machine to your house, you must use a transfer switch to do it safely. Else, it won’t work properly and can cause accidents.

As you can imagine, a generator this large has also a very large fuel tank. It has capacity for almost 8 gallons of gasoline. At half load it would be able to run uninterruptedly for about 10 hours.

The great news about this machine that is also a constant in all Champion models is that it thoroughly complies with EPA/CARB standards. So, you can be confident you can use it in all 50 states including California which applies the most restrictive environmental regulations.

All generators made by this brand are made under high quality standards and usually get a real good reception from the public. This model is a good example, receiving almost 100% 5-star feedbacks left by Amazon users that bought it.

After all this gossip, you must be thinking, “What do I need such a big generator for?” If you think twice, you may conclude that a smaller device could perfectly meet your needs.

Anyway, in case you consciously think you need a generator that provides 9,000 running watts or look for a portable thorough house alternative power source, you certainly can consider the Champion 100110 as one of your best options.

Pros

  • Perfectly suitable to be used as a thorough house power source (connected via transfer switch!)
  • Enough potency to power a MIG welder
  • Average runtime of 10 hours on a full tank

Cons

  • Burdensome and heavy, although expectable for a machine this big
